One Year Anniversary

There's a few key dates right around each other when it comes to my history in the doll hobby.  I honestly can't remember when I first became interested in BJDs.  I know it was several years back and that my interest sort of waxed and waned, but it wasn't until just over a year ago (maybe summer 2010) that I really decided I wanted to get into it and started doing some serious research about dolls and the hobby.  Many times when I thought about getting into dolls, it just seemed so out of reach, but it was then that I said to myself "hey, if I save up, I can own the doll of my dreams" - which after looking at many dolls, I decided was a Luts Kid Delf Aru.

At some point at the early part of October or maybe the end of September, I decided that while I was saving up for my dream doll, maybe I should look into a smaller, less expensive doll to have in the meantime.  I had looked at the Volks website and really liked the Dollfie Dreams, but they were out of my price range at the time, so not really knowing much about dolls yet, I purchased a Dollfie Plus on October 8th, 2010 - she later arrived on October 12th, and I named her Aya.  Honestly, I was disappointed because I didn't realize that Dollfie Pluses weren't "real BJDs", more like the Japanese equivalent of cheap toy Barbies or fashion dolls.

But anyway, the other big landmark was that on October 9th, on a whim, I found and purchased a "real" (resin) BJD second-hand on ebay.  She really was an impulse - I didn't know hardly anything about BJDs, but she was small, cute, and I could afford her. Madeline Rose's much anticipated arrival was on October 18, 2010 - one year ago today.  :D

Even though she was old, yellowed, and (as I now know) could use some new strings, I loved her dearly.  I still have Madeline and can't imagine parting with her though.  I hope in the next year to attempt to de-yellow her as well as restring her and give her a new faceup.  (:

 Happy 1 Year Birthday/Arrival Anniversary!

It is pretty amazing to me to look back at the past year and see how far I've come in (or maybe been engulfed by) the hobby.  I did wind up getting my "dream doll" - my Kid Delf Aru, now named Minette.  She's actually one of four Kid Delfs I have now lol, as well as a handful (or armful maybe) of other resin dolls plus several "off topic" non-resin dolls.  Besides just the number of dolls I have, I've found and become very active in my local (and not-so-local) doll scene and have a great group of dollie friends (whom I would also count as friends in general, not just as "doll friends").

Overall, I'd have to say it's been a great year, and I'm glad that this little doll got me started down the road to dollie bliss.  (:
